Nonprofit Development: From Strategy to Operations
The Nonprofit Village and Catalogue for Philanthropy are partnering to serve the nonprofit community by hosting a series of four workshops on nonprofit development. From strategy to operations to the donor cycle, participants learn exactly what they need to grow their development efforts effectively and efficiently.
The second workshop in the series, Development Operations, will be held on June 21, 2018 from 2:00-5:00PM. This workshop will focus on creating an effective and efficient development effort for your nonprofit. This includes reviewing or establishing needed policies and procedures, analyzing opportunities to improve donor tracking and information management, and staffing against development work. For staffing, Participants will learn to differentiate tasks that are appropriate for full-time, part-time, consultants, and volunteers respectively.
The next workshop, Donor Cycle I: Identification and Cultivation, will be held on September 9, 2018 from 9:00AM–12:00 noon. Finding and cultivating relationships is a major factor in the success of development efforts. This workshop will focus on how to find new prospects, regardless of type (individual, foundation, corporation), and then how to initially grow the relationship. Cultivation is key because it is when a prospect decides to support an organization, and we will cover tactics to create “mission-moments” for prospects.
The final workshop, Donor Cycle II: Solicitation and Stewardship, scheduled for November 7, 2018 from 2:00-5:00PM, will help participants to “Make the ask”. It is the part of development that often scares people the most—even though it should be the easiest role of a development professional. This workshop will focus on helping participants decide when it is the right time to ask, how to do so, and how to follow-up. We will cover this from three perspectives: individual donors, foundations, and corporations. The second-half of the workshop will focus on stewardship—thanking the donor for their support and making a plan to grow the relationship further.
